Ultracare – Lysine Iron Agar (LIA)

Product Overview:
Ultracare Lysine Iron Agar (LIA) is a differential medium used for the identification of Enterobacteriaceae, particularly Salmonella species. The medium tests an organism’s ability to decarboxylate or deaminate lysine and to produce hydrogen sulfide (H₂S).

Key Details:

  • Composition: Peptones, lysine, glucose, ferric ammonium citrate, sodium thiosulfate, and pH indicators
  • Application: Differentiates Enterobacteriaceae, especially Salmonella and Shigella
  • Format: Dehydrated powder for slant and butt preparation in tubes
  • Storage: Store tightly closed in a cool, dry place
  • Use: For microbiology laboratory use only, not for medicinal use

Safety & Handling:

  • Laboratory use only; avoid ingestion or inhalation of powder
  • Wear gloves, goggles, and lab coat during handling
  • Dispose of inoculated media according to biosafety standards

Advantages:

  • Differentiates bacteria based on lysine decarboxylation and deamination
  • Detects hydrogen sulfide production (black precipitate)
  • Useful for distinguishing Salmonella from Shigella and other enterics
  • Reliable performance in clinical and food microbiology

Ultracare Lysine Iron Agar is a reliable medium for differentiating Enterobacteriaceae, particularly Salmonella species. With clear biochemical indicators, it provides dependable results for clinical and food microbiology testing.
